Graduate Level Internships

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey offers advanced career development internships specifically for graduate-level applicants. Selected applicants work as integral junior staff members with The Shakespeare Theatre, gaining invaluable internship and resumé credits, and professional work experience.

Graduate Casting Assistant

MULTIPLE POSITIONS AVAILABLE:
JANUARY–MAY 2010 • AUGUST-DECEMBER 2010 • JANUARY-MAY 2011

The Graduate Casting Assistant works directly with the Artistic Director and Associate Artistic Director in casting all Main Stage, Outdoor Stage, and touring productions for The Shakespeare Theatre. Duties include reviewing headshot and resumé submissions, acting as a liaison with artists' agents and performers, scheduling auditions, and other select administrative duties. The ideal candidate is either in her/his final year of graduate school or has completed a masters program in directing or arts administration. Though there is no stipend for this internship, housing is provided. Adjunct job opportunities are also available in the area.

Graduate Designer for the Next Stage Ensemble

BEGINS IN APRIL 2010 (application deadline March 12, 2010)

The Graduate Designer is responsible for the creation and execution of costume and/or scenic designs for The Shakespeare Theatre's summer touring company, the Next Stage Ensemble. This twelve-member company rehearses and tours two abridged classic works throughout New Jersey between June and August. The Graduate Designer has access to most of the Shakespeare Theatre's extensive stock and is given limited personnel support through the execution portion of the design process. Following the completion of the designs, the Graduate Designer contines work through the summer training program in an appropriate production department (costumes, scenic construction, scenic art or properties). Housing and/or stipend is available based on the level of the applicant's experience.
