The Next Stage Ensemble

The Next Stage Ensemble tours an abridged Shakespeare play each summer to local community centers, libraries, and retirement communities.  This production, directed by a staff or guest director and designed by members of the Intern Company, allows Next Stagers to not only hone their skills working on classic texts, but also provides an important exploration into the maintenance of a role over an extended touring period not typically available in academic settings.

The tour begins rehearsals around week three of the program, and starts touring in mid-July.  As an Ensemble, Next Stagers are responsible for the set-up and load-outs of the simple scenic, prop and costume elements of the touring production.  Specific training in these areas are scheduled during the tech process for the tour.  The actors are also coached in how to conduct informative and engaging post-show discussions with the audiences following the performances.
