Some critics turn up their collective noses at horror. They disparage its reliance on stock characters, clichéd situations, and stale attempts at shocks.

But if horror is so disreputable, why have so many great writers dabbled in the genre? From the witches in “Macbeth” to the mad narrator of “The Tell-Tale Heart,” from Dorian Gray to Count Dracula, literature abounds with characters tied to horror.

This Monday, Oct. 27, some of those characters and their stories will come to life in a different setting: the stage. The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey is presenting the fourth annual production of “Something Wicked This Way Comes.” Click here to read more.
