Student Matinee performances complement classroom studies and enable teachers to promote literacy and cultural awareness, while also allowing students to gain a deeper understanding of dramatic literature and the theatrical tradition.

Each teacher receives a comprehensive Study Guide, a valuable tool for pre-show preparation and post-performance reflection. The experience includes a "talk-back" session following the show, engaging students in a highly informative dialogue with the actors as well as members of  The Shakespeare Theatre's artistic and production staff. By bringing a group to The Shakespeare Theatre and using the activities in the study guide, teachers enable students to meet New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards in areas such as Visual and Performing Arts, Language Arts Literacy and Social Studies.

Funding for the Student Matinee Series is provided, in part, by FirstEnergy Foundation.
