First time experiences can be wonderful if not exceptional. This so describes my journey and evening of the Grouch by Menander. My comfortable train ride from Manhattan to Convent and the walk to the Amphitheatre was filled with interesting sites. The theatre setting in its authenticity was perfect for a summers evening. And having The Grouch as my first experience of a Greek comedy and play of Menander was a delight. The staging and direction was to perfection as were the actors in all their charm and characterization. I left with a running thought that I would love to see it again and perhaps after that, again. A first time could not have been any better. Thanks to everyone involved for this.....Bravo

What a great family show! Sitting in a "Greek" amphitheatre on a beautiful summer night, watching the sun set while taking in "The Grouch" was truly a wonderful experience. The characters were very animated, and seemed aimed to please children and adults both. The humor was high-brow enough to charm the adult wit--and the crazy antics of Puck and the nymphs (who often venture into the audience) will be sure to entertain the kids as well (in fact, on the night I attended, several children were in the audience, giggling the whole way through and begging their parents to bring them back). A true Greek comedy (translated into somewhat modern language), "The Grouch" is not a "children's" show, but the director has kept a keen eye for family entertainment, bringing a much appreciated lightness in just the right places, while preserving the honest tone of the production. Great job all around...the acting was superb, the humor was perfetly timed, the music and dancing was entertaining and jubilant, and the airplanes that kept flying overhead were dealt with in a very funny, very tongue-in-cheek way (I won't give that away). Highly recommended!

I really enjoyed this show. I'll be honest I came across the country to see my son perform but I didn't know what to expect because this play is so rarely done. The cast was excellent and I laughed all the through. The actor who played the cook was outstanding! The time flew by and sadly it was over. I teach theater classes in California and I'm thrilled to see a play by Menander mounted and performed with energy and absolute fun. I'm just sorry I can't see it a second time. Congratulations to all involved!
