JOE DISCHER (Director) is in his twelfth season with the Festival. As artistic
associate, Joe directs and heads up casting for the Festival's various acting
companies. He also works in training program recruitment and with the Festival's
outreach program. As a director and resident artist, he returns to the Main Stage
following the success of THE FANTASTICKS in 2001 for which he was named Best Director
of a Musical by The Star-Ledger. Other N.J.S.F. directorial credits include TWELFTH
NIGHT on the Main Stage; TRAVELS WITH MY AUNT, MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING and THE
COMPLEAT WRKS OF WLLM SHKSPR (ABRIDGED) for the Other Stage; ROMEO AND JULIET
for Shakespeare LIVE!, the Festival's educational touring company; and THE TEMPEST
and Brecht's THE VISIONS OF SIMONE MACHARD for the Festival's Next Stage Ensemble.
He has appeared on stage at N.J.S.F. as Pan in THE GROUCH, Amiens in AS YOU LIKE
IT and Valentine in TWELFTH NIGHT, and was the winner of the 1999 National Society
of Arts and Letters acting competition (New Jersey chapter). Joe is currently
a choir member, soloist and cantor at St. Cassian Church in Upper Montclair. Previously,
he sang for four years at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark.
He is a graduate of Drew University.
