BRUCE AUERBACH (Lighting Designer) is in his eleventh season with The Shakespeare Theatre, beginning with the inaugural production under Bonnie J. Monte's leadership, The Tempest. Favorite productions with the company include The Seagull, Electra, The Homecoming and Cyrano de Bergerac, all directed by Bonnie J. Monte. He first worked with Robert Cuccioli while designing lights for the American premiere of Enter the Guardsman, in which Mr. Cuccioli starred. Some of his other favorite work has been for the Williamstown Theatre Festival where his lighting design credits include Golden Boy, directed by Joanne Woodward, the world premiere of The Lucky Spot by Beth Henley, and Autumn Elegy featuring E.G. Marshall and Ruth Nelson. Other professional credits include lighting designs for the Richmond Ballet and seven productions for the Heritage Repertory Theatre at the University of Virginia. Bruce is currently chair and artistic director for the department of dance and theatre at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. For the 11 years prior to joining the faculty at U.N.C., Bruce was resident scene designer at the University of Notre Dame, where he also served as associate chair and director of theatre. He is credited with more than 30 designs while on faculty, including the acclaimed production of Brecht's The Life of Galileo, directed by Holger Teschke, formerly resident playwright and dramaturg at the Berliner Ensemble Company.
