I cannot say enough about the brilliant performances of the cast of The Cherry Orchard. Seeing Laila Robins tread so carefully through the subtleties and complexities of the Ranevsky's trials is nothing short of breathtaking. Ms. Robins, along with Sherman Howard, Ed Genest, and the rest of this truly stellar cast, are revelatory in their restraint and precision - allowing for both repression and vulnerability at once. There are moments when these actors are seemingly unable to allow further repression, and an anxious awareness of passing (of twilight Russia, youth, innocence, family) wells up, but does not change them, that are absolutely incandescent.
Bravo!

Wonderful direction & casting, Moving performances by all. I had very strong reactions to the characters: I wanted to slap Lyubov, sedate Leonid, marry Ermolai and go drinking with Fiers! Visually stunning, superb lighting and costumes, and those EXQUISITE SETS - the orchard took my breath away - a brilliant and powerful design.
