Graduate
Level Internships
The Shakespeare
Theatre of New Jersey now offers advanced career development
internships specifically for graduate-level applicants. Selected
applicants will work as integral junior staff members with
The Shakespeare Theatre, gaining invaluable internship and
resume credits, and professional work experience.
The Graduate Casting
Assistant works directly with the Artistic Director and Associate
Artistic Director in casting all Main Stage, Outdoor Stage,
and touring productions for The Shakespeare Theatre. Duties
include reviewing headshots and resumes, acting as a liaison
with artists' agents and performers, scheduling auditions,
and other select administrative duties. The ideal candidate
is either in her/his final year of graduate school or has
completed a masters program in directing or arts administration.
Though there is no stipend, free housing is provided for the
duration of the internship. Adjunct job opportunities are
available in the area.
Applicants should
submit the basic SPTP internship application
(download here),
but clearly indicate on the form that they are applying for
the graduate position, and indicate which internship period
they are interested in.
The Graduate Designer
is responsible for the creation and execution of costume and/or
scenic designs for The Shakespeare Theatre's summer touring
company, the Next Stage Ensemble.
This twelve-member company rehearses and tours two abridged
classic works throughout New Jersey between June and August.
The Graduate Designer has access to most Shakespeare Theatre
stock and is given limited personnel support through the execution
portion of the design project. Following completion of the
designs, the Graduate Designer continues work through the
remainder of the summer training program as a senior intern
in an appropriate production department (costumes, scenic
construction, scenic art or props). Housing and/or stipend
is available, depending on the level of the applicant's experience.
Applicants should
submit the basic SPTP internship application
(download here),
but clearly indicate on the form that they are applying for
the graduate position, include a digital portfolio or printed
portfolio samples, and indicate whether they are interested
in scenic design, costume design, or both.
